Skill Builder BOM

This is the color pallet I will be using for this project.  I have finished making and quilting blocks one and two. I have also chosen my thread colors for this project.  The coppery brown is for the back.  My quilt back is made of material I had in my stash.  I thought they were all fat quarters until I started ironing and cutting them.  Oops!  Well to stick with my goal of use what you have,  I just made a few randomly pieced blocks.  Here is a picture of the blocks  laid  out on the playroom floor.

I quilted my quilts as shown in the Skill Builder's Block of the Month videos.   I used my Bernina patchwork edition for this quilting.  The use of the thread holder and using an embroidery needle prevented thread problems I had had in the past.  Thanks so much for the tip about the sharp needles Alyssa.
I simply used unclosed quilting pins to baste this since it is such a small project.  Here are som pictures of my FMQ.

Blooming Patch Work

Friday, the Sassy Stitchers quilt guild worked on a blooming patchwork quilt. I decide to just use a monochromatic color scheme in browns. Here is a picture of the quilt top. I will still add a light color border and then I am thinking of prairie points for the outer border. The color variances and textures don't show well in this picture.

Sneak Peak

Just a sneak peak of the double wedding ring table runner for my son's wedding.  The black corner triangles have to be added to each block.  The corners will be the background fabric.  The boarder will match the black triangles.

Dyeing Garden

My flower garden is dying, but that didn't stop me from using the dried materials to dye some fabric.  This was just a simple experiment.  I packed some small baby food jars with plant materials, poured warm water over them, stuffed a small piece of PFD fabric in the jars and sealed them.  Then I let them sit 2 weeks on my front porch.  No mordants or anything else was used.  Most of these were very weak as my rain deprived and neglected garden had little to yield.   The coreopsis seed heads turned the water a lovely yellow shade right away.  The cloth was dark yellow until rinsed, then it was very pale.  I believe if I boiled the ingredients instead of only setting them in sun and used some mordants results would be stronger.  Here are the sample pieces. I am going to make them into a quilted journal cover for my natural dye notes.

The images below show samples and what was used as well as the original cloth color.
