New Baby Quilt

This quilt is still a work in progress, but I am very please with how it is turning out.  It is my own design.  The front is made mostly of flannel and the back os made of fleece.  All of the pieces will be appliqued with machine satin stitching.

My Granddaughter's Quilt

I finally got harper's quilted wall hanging finished and delivered.   Only problem was I forgot to photograph.  My husband photographed it when we dropped my grandson off last Tuesday night.

Hopes Wings part 1

The following hand blocks were made by Berea quilters.  The 8 inch hand stitched blocks were arranged into groupings for art quilts to be auctioned for support to the women's shelter.  Pat Jennings held a free workshop to get us started.  Everyone brought scrap fabric to share and Pat brought lots, and lots of fabulous beads and embellishments.

 The pieces were put together to make a few quilts and wall hangings and were auctioned of to benefit Hopes Wings.  Hopes' wings is a women''s shelter in Madison County.

Here are some snapshots of the charity blocks I made for my quilt group.  All our blocks were hand sewn.  The continuity in all the 8" blocks  to be made was wings.  The blocks will be made into 5 quilts  and then be auctioned of to support Berea's women's shelter.                                            

Wild Goose Chase

My Wild Goose Chase quilt was finished and arrived at the Berea Quilt Extravaganza on time.  It is part of the "Flying Things Challenge"  The challenge fabric is the navy blue in the sky.Here is a picture of it and another  of my quilts in the exhibit, Greener Pastures.  Now Wild Goose Chase is being exhibited at the Berea Hospital.  Fabric used are mostly batiks.  Wings are made of my own walnut dyed fabriks and batiks.  Wings are quilted, are not flat against the quilt.  One foot extends forward our of quilt.

Spent two hours walking the beach this morning.  Watched a gorgeous sunrise over the ocean. The reflection of pinks and blues on the wet sand were amazing.  Saw a 6" jellyfish and got quite a startle  from a crab pinch while trying to pick a shell out of the water with my foot.   I also got to see a sand shark up close as it was being taken off a fishing hook.  Lots of cool colors and textures of shells.  I sure enjoyed getting lost in the sound of waves breaking and the beautiful morning.

Sneak Peak

Here is a sneak peek at my quilt for flight.  I have to finish it up for an art show August 1st in Berea, KY.  It has been modified  a lot since this image.  This was a preliminary layout.  The geese in the sky are just scraps being  auditioned, so is the beak. The girls arms and braids have been redone.   Now to quilt it and make the wings 3 dimensional.

What happened to June?

Here I am counting the days left of July to finish my flight quilt.  I have worked on a lot, but have not blogged about anything.   I created this three dimensional house for a friend of mine.  It symbolizes the love found in her home.  Kids representing her children and grandchildren peer out all the windows.  The roof comes off to reveal a secret stach of chocolate.   The structure is built with timtex layered in the middle as batting.  The bird nest is an acorn cap and beads.  The rocks are beads and flowers  are sewn with embroidery floss.  Windows are made of clear vinel.



The first week in July we attended the last Cornerstone Music Festival.  There were lots of inspirational speakers, as well as great artists.  I got to see one of my favorite bands, Iona.  We enjoyed ourselves immensely despite the 110 heat index all week.  One of my highlights is always the art pilgrimage.   This year I did some silk dyeing and finally got to learn a bit about needle felting.  Here is a picture of my creations.

Big Mouth Puppets

Here is a picture of the big mouth puppet and the toilet paper puppet I made as samples to show the children at church how to make puppets.

Our morning Sunday school students and our evening excite night kids had a great time making puppets today.  I think they all did a terrific job, but most importantly had a great time.  Here are some pictures of a few of the puppets.
